For today's "technology" post, I thought I'd share a fun thing that's currently developing on facebook. I've always enjoyed getting back in touch with people I haven't seen or spoken to in years. For a while, all you could do was google someone's name and hope they left their email address somewhere. Then along came friendster, myspace and facebook. One of my *old* friends from elementary school posted a picture of our class on our sixth grade end of the year trip to New York City. Now, through that picture- and various people's comments- I'm back in touch with more than half of that class, and our teacher! For everyone who had her, Mrs. Chaimson was their favorite for life. And now, almost twenty years later, it feels great to be able to tell her how wonderful she was and what an impact she had on my life. This picture is of me and my best friend Crystal on the bus heading to NYC- May of 1992.

Sonia, that is a great story. I've been feeling rather "creeped out" by how public Facebook is (even when you make most stuff private), but your story definitely shows the upside of that!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to echo Wilma on this one...it's creepy how within 24 hours of setting up my facebook account I was contacted by a quarter of my high school class. None of whom I've been in touch with since the 10 year reunion...ten years ago. And thus far most of my interactions with other long lost acquaintances seems to consist of tossing sheep at one another. (And no, don't ask me to explain, I'm still not sure what the poking & sheep tossing is all about either.)
ReplyDeleteYour story makes me think there may be something positive to this whole social networking thing after all. :)
