LibraryThing
I started my librarything account right after I started working here- February 13, 2007. I started my library, but never finished and it's a kick to go back and see what books I read in the first few months of being in Spokane. At first I was overwhelmed, do I add all the books I own at home and tag them? Or just add books as I read them? I tried a little of both, stopped, and then joined goodreads which I like- I just add books as I go. (When I started I did try adding all the books I've ever read ever, but that was too much). LibraryThing has come a long way since February '07 and has some really cool features now, including the "talk" forum where users can connect with each other on a huge variety of topics. My favorite thread to follow is "funny requests from patrons" which is here: http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.php?topic=17962#1110271.

You've got a serious case of ... LibraryThing guilt! Wow. It carries over from the real stacks to the virtual. I love how we're all hung up on "what do I add," "when do I add it," how much do I say about it...." We really can't let go of the library. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, btw, for pointing me at "funny requests"--I just lost the better part of two hours over there. And am sorely tempted to post a few of my own. Many of them featuring my mother.
Whoa! What kind of "funny requests" did people have for your mother?!?!
