Flickr Fun

I've had a flickr account for a while now, but had no idea there were so many cool features! So, I've definitely been enjoying the latest 2.0 task. I think my favorite is the map, I was able to zoom in and place some pictures on the exact spot where they were taken (down to the street corner, pretty cool.) I haven't taken many library pictures lately, but here's a fave from last summer. I think Cindy would agree that this t-shirt is for pre-Breaking Dawn Jacob only.

Seattle

Thought I'd try and post a picture.. I'm a frequent flickr user- I use it as a diary of sorts, and have a posted a picture every day since May 3 2008. Here's one I took last weekend in Seattle- my friend Brook lives in Queen Anne. This is the view from the stairwell- not bad :)

Being a successful lifelong learner

Having just listened to the tutorial about the 7 1/2 habits of successful lifelong learners, I'm able to reflect on which of them come more naturally to me than others. As a refresher, the habits are:
Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor others
Habit 7 ½: Play

The two that pose the biggest challege to me are the first and fifth. I'll echo my co-youth librarian Cindy here- I'm no stranger to procrastination. I can start with a very general goal in mind, but I have trouble taking the time to make miniature goals (and meet them!). The other challenge that jumps out at me from this list is the learning toolbox. It's good to collect and keep things that help you learn. I collect, but rarely keep. On the other side of the coin, I'm fairly comfortable with the rest of the list. The one I'm most proud of is my ability to view problems as challenges. I love learning new things and sharing them with others.

First post

Hello! As part of SCLD's Learning 2.0 program, we're learning about new technologies that we can use in the library. More to come, obviously :)
